Again, I must stress how important it is for anyone who is doing Family History research to first have an understanding of the history of the country that they are researching, for having a knowledge of a country's history makes Family History research easier and far more interesting.

I often wish that I could write a book on history the same way that a Cinematograph film is made, with the main actors acting out the facts against a background of National music, National festivals, costumes and folklore.
Of course I cannot do that, but I can ask you, that as you read German History in this book, to create in your own mind a backdrop of German music, of beautiful German mountains or forest scenery, German folklore, flaxen haired German youths, and, of course, beautiful German women, and every facet of German town and village life that you have read in German travel books - and so our German History begins......
